Jason’s adventures, day 2

Tonight we chatted for a while and they were getting ready to go talk to someone about an Otterball project they (Jason and Paul) are working on. It’s secretive so I can’t really talk about it. All I can say is “Am I Right Ladies?” Check the site for more updates. They were off to have dinner today. This is what they are going to be eating…
800px-fatback.jpg  It’s called fatback… Yep, you’ve got it… it’s the back fat of a pig… healthy… Here, you can read all about it. So, you can check out Jason’s web gallery for more pictures from the trip as well as videos he’s taken. Keep in mind though when you’re watching these that he IS speaking to me. 😉  I’ll add more to this post tomorrow after I chat with him in the morning before he goes to bed.

Jason is OOT

OOT? One may ask “What does that mean?” Others may think “Rebecca spelled the word ‘too’ backwards.” Well, guess again… it means Out of Town… and Jason is exactly that. This week, next week, and part of the next, that’s 17 days total, he will be residing in…

 seoul1.jpg

…any guesses???Ding, ding, ding! That’s right… Seoul, Korea. His company (www.batiq.com) has an office there, and our friend Paul (who Jason works with) lives there. So, they are working on a big project right now and Batiq wanted him to spend a couple weeks there to get a lot of work done in a short amount of time.Tonight is the second night he’s been gone. I can certainly say that I don’t mind being alone and by myself BUT… being here in San Fran is different. We’re not yet quite connected like we were in Houston so it’s a little bit more secluded that one married young lady would choose. Other than that, things are swell. I spoke with Jason via iChat Video tonight. He’s doing well and is enjoying being in a new land experiencing new things (i.e. frozen yogurt with Fruit Loops). I will keep you all updated, or you can check out his website at www.jasonbjones.com.

SYTYCD

Is anyone a fan of the show “So You Think You Can Dance?” Well, I’m a huge fan! I loved Benji from last year and then this year was just as good! So, on my way home from my Thanksgiving trip to Phoenix, Lauren Gottlieb from this past season of SYTYCD was on my plane. I didn’t get a picture of us, but this is her… 198498448_l.jpg…remember now? Anyway, I got the chance to talk to her for a couple minutes. She was on her way to Oakland for a show that night as part of the SYTYCD ’07 tour. She said the tour was very tiring but good and that the show has opened up many doors for her. She really appreciated the support.  I did not go to the show since I had just gotten into town, but I encourage you to if you can!

Thanksgiving 2007

This year for Thanksgiving we visited my aunt Jerri in Phoenix. My mom and grandmother came to visit as well. It was so nice to see them and get to eat the traditional Thanksgiving dinner that I grew up with. The last couple of years have been my lame effort to try to replicate that. The weather was just perfect while we were there, so, because of that, we got to go to the Grand Canyon.  Here are a few pictures from the trip…      The Family    Grand Canyon    Us at the Canyon

Love

love.jpgI’ve really been thinking about love lately but mostly the love of a mother. I know this best because I have a mother who loves me so much. I also have a mother-in-law that no matter what, she looks past it and loves. It is the most wonderful thing to have two women in my life that are so loving and accepting of me and my faultsThe love they have is unconditional. It’s that kind of love that no matter what you do, even if they are really mad at what you’ve done, you know that they still love. You can talk to them about your joys and your sorrows. You can be vulnerable or angry. You can count on them to love you through it. It’s a safe love, it never shuns you. It comforts, it doesn’t discount your feelings. It’s cherishes, it gives you the best they’ve got. It gives you hope for the future and forgiveness for the past. It’s all these things and so much more!I love this kind of love. I hunger for it. I’m so lucky to have two people in my life that I get it from! God gave this gift to them and I hope that he has given it to me too. Maybe someday I will be able to bless my child and show them the love that I have received.I wish all people could know this kind of love… and give it.

Earthquake

Yep, there was an earthquake last week (our first that we know of) and we did get the effects of it in our area. I didn’t necessarily feel it but I heard the results of it: a sound like the slamming of a door or thunder and the slight chiming of our glasses in the cabinets. Other than that, there’s not much to speak of. We’re all okay and as far as I know, everyone else is too. There was only minor damage and the shifting of few shampoo bottles in stores. 🙂

Sweet goodness!

There’s nothing like stepping outside at this time of the year and smelling the freshness of Fall. It’s crisp, refreshing, and sweet. Yes, that’s right, I said sweet. Depending on the morning and how the breeze is blowing there’s a crisp sweetness in the air in our neighborhood that is very similar to the smell of a Hershey’s bar melting, and we all know how good that smells. It’s heavenly. Honestly, I think that’s what my Heaven will smell like. What is this sweetness, you ask? Well, this morning is was especially strong so when I got to a computer I went to my trusty friend Mr. Google and asked him about chocolate factories in my area. To my surprise he found exactly what I was looking for – Guittard Chocolate Factory- just minutes away from my house. This chocolate factory makes chocolate from one of the most potent cacao beans in the world. So that explains the strongness of the smell! How cool is that?! Too bad you can’t taste the air. Again, my Heaven! Here’s a sample of what they make…

Celeb Sitings…

Here’s who we’ve seen so far…Most recently, like today, I just watched this guy walk around inside my store. No kidding. It was him. I got about a foot away around a corner. Jason saw this guy at Starbucks. This is Ando from “Hero’s.” We saw this girlie at the Santa Cruz boardwalk on Saturday. This is Kari Byron from the hit show “Mythbusters.”And we all know who this is. I can’t say where I saw her due to her desire to keep life private.

You know you’re getting older when…

… you start buying things you never thought you’d buy. My latest purchases have been:1. What my mother calls a night gown… others call it a piece of lingerie. I call it comfort. :)2. A hummingbird feeder. I saw one on a neighbor’s porch and thought, ooo! that could be fun to watch. So I bought one. Here’s my first hummingbird (that I’ve seen) partaking of the Jones’s nectar. I hear it’s pretty sweet! 🙂I’ll keep you posted on future old lady purchases.’Til then,Making Mom Proud

Scawy Wabbit…

so I’m not one to really get scared of dumb stuff so this is real… the other night Jason and I step out of the apartment on our way to get the 50,000 pounds of laundry being washed at the laundry room in the center of our apartment complex. No sooner did we get 3 yards from our door did I hear and see something very large scurry away and up the nearest tree. Any guesses?RaccoonA huge raccoon! Oh my gosh, it was humongous! I’m scared to death, wanting to get back inside and never go back out after dark again! So naturally, I went back in and got the camera. Jason’s shooting away. They’re cute, but man, they will you tear you up if they feel threatened. Okay, so then I go around through the parking lot to get to the main sidewalk that leads to the center of the complex and what did I see there? 3 more raccoons! Thankfully they were running in the opposite direction. Uh uh, no way was I going down there! I was ready to go back inside and forget about the laundry. I mean, how hard is it to buy all new towels? But, I was loving made fun of and forced to the laundry room. We went the long way around and on our timid walk, yet another raccoon! That’s 5 people! 5 raccoons just outside our door! CRAZY! So, now every time I’m outside after dark you better believe I’ve got something in my hand that makes noise. Oooo it gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it!November 6th – still scared… no more sightings.

Rain

Rain

Rain. If you get to much of it, you never want to go outside. You get depressed because it’s cloudy all the time. Your hair gets frizzy. You hate the way it smells, etc. Welcome to Houston.

If you don’t get enough of it, you pray every day for it. You wonder why God is punishing the land. You spend lots of money on watering your yard. You get depressed because everything is dying no matter how hard to try to keep it alive. Welcome to NashvilleMe? Well, I’m neither. Welcome to Northern California. Does it rain here? Yes. But when? Well, yesterday, I experienced the first real rain. We’ve been here almost 6 months now, and we just got the first rain. It was great! A light sprinkle. Oh and the smell of rain – just amazing! I didn’t realize how much I missed the smell. Ahh…Evidently, we’re entering into the rainy season. It will sprinkle on most days and then clear up. It’s slight colder here now, getting up to about 60 or so. It’s nice but I’m sure most people look forward to it being over. I think it will be this way until February. So, if you want to visit, wait until March. It’s gorgeous then!

Making Old Friends, New Again

HeatherSunday night, I had the greatest pleasure of getting to hang out with a dear friend of mine from high school. It had been almost 7 years since we’d seen each other last and just about that long since we last talked. Life took us both by the arm and whisked us away! What a whirlwind we’ve both been through in the last several years. We met back up about 3 months ago on Facebook. I love Facebook by the way. It’s SO much better than Myspace. I’ve actually rekindled friendships because of Facebook which never really happened via Myspace. Sorry Tom. I just like “the Face” better. Anyway, I emailed her, not believing that I had actually found her and I told her that it’s been like forever that I’ve been trying to catch up with her!”Funny,” she said. “I’ve been talking about you for years!””Really?” I said. Then she went on tell me (both in her email and even more indepth Sunday night) what a crucial part I played in her coming to Christ. You need to know that she went on to work for Campus Crusade for Christ both of which we were actively involved in in college. She talked about the devotional I gave her our senior year of high school and how that really spurred her on to dig deeper into Christianity, to how I prayed for her, helped her with questions she had, and how I was her friend when others turned their back on her. I mean I sort of knew all this but I guess I didn’t know just how much it changed her. It was very touching, I nearly made an idiot of myself at dinner but I did good held back the miles of tears. Since then, she’s led bible studies and college groups with Cru and every time she’s shared her testimoy, she reads from the devotional I gave her and talks about me like we’d never lost touch. Like we were still the best friends.Gosh, humbling huh? What a mediocre life I lead and to hear this! WOW! I just couldn’t believe it! God used me in her life and now I see what He has done through me! What an honor. Thank you Lord for using me! Thank you for blessing someone elses life through mine and thank you for blessing mine again!Heather, I am so proud of you! It was great to see you, and I can’t wait ’til next time! Wish you guys were here so you could be our Joe and Janice! :)Much love always girlie!
